Perfect for a day-trip from Tokyo, Nikko is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been too. We were glad that we managed to get away from the concrete streets of Tokyo’s Metropolis, for a 2-3 hour drive to this National park, which is usually full in the summer, but a total ghost-town in winter and early spring. We drove up to Nikko, as we were a group (1 family), so we were able to split the cost. Yes, driving in japan can get really expensive! Prepare some budget if you’d like to drive up to this park. The drive was worth it as the views unfold amidst the foggy mist. Nikko is best visited in Fall/Autumn, with many tracks to hike-around.
